We discover many elaborate ways to demand the attention of the Modern Condition, but few as Universal as the act of drawing. Which we all do, often. And like all poems are songs, all writing is drawing. Impassioned drawings, drawings of potential meals on scrap paper (shopping lists): one onion…bleach.

LIL PALSER BARTO traces the actual matter of this, of the muscular inner thigh. Snow pea pods fanning outward (tendrils griping on), the gentle tag of dry hands on old cotton, both palms on the flat of a chest before curving off gently to the nipple. A loose arrangement of flowers—Collins Street, when that mattered; austere, slender—overlapping lapels—a bag in a box in a bag in a raincoat—delicate unstoppable hands—

drawn out.

LIL PALSER BARTO, is an Artist living & practicing on unceded Ngár-go (Fitzroy) Land. Barto’s works on canvas and paper are studies of the abstract body as it wades through the thicket. Barto has presented solo exhibitions at DISCORDIA GALLERY & KUNST GALLERY, and is held in numerous private collections both locally and internationally.
